Does 4.10 gear change your gas mileage?

Yeah so do I, I usually try to use sixth at 45 and up. My rpms are real low around 1200-1300. I always figured the lower the rpms the better the mileage and wear and tear if your just cruising a constant speed. I can't wait to get 4.10's, it really makes a big difference, right?

If you look at this scientifically - fuel is consumed based upon how much "work" the engine is doing. So assuming all variables remain constant, the fuel expenditure will not change. However there is a slight efficiency loss by spinning the engine (and accessories) faster. So if you maintain exactly 60mph for example, the fuel consumption will only change based upon the extra energy required to turn the accessories and rotating assemble that extra 400rpm. So my guess is 1 or 2 MPG.
