new noise (sorry this is a bit long)... My 01 ss is a MN6, bilstein, hurst and d/d. I bought the car with 7k – it has 9k now -- and the car runs perfectly. Recently, I started hearing a faint clunking noise (sounds like metal on metal/two metal stress ***** hitting each other, kind of like something is loose or doesn’t fit right or more specifically, something that is spinning, but when the rotation speed slows it gently taps the sides) coming from the rear when I am decelerating on flat surfaces (not going downhill), especially when the car is not in gear. The sound sometimes occurs in between 1st and 2nd shifts under extremely light acceleration (done in heavy traffic to avoid the skip shift) and it occurred when I left the car in 4th gear as I decelerated to see if the noise would appear. Any thoughts? The noise did not exist when I bought the car, it appeared around 7800 miles and has not gotten worse and, more importantly, it has not effected the way the car runs in any way. More of a PIA and I would like some specifics if I decide to bring it to the dealer. Thanks.

Re: new noise (sorry this is a bit long)... Do your bushings require grease, eg. do they have fittings? I had the same thing and gave my bushings a good grease. It decreased a bit. I think I need to go back there and tighten the LCAs down too.

Re: new noise (sorry this is a bit long)... It's hard to tell from the description, but my first guess would actually be the rear u-joint. It's about 15-20 bucks to replace if you want to do it yourself, but seeing as your car is under warranty I would just harass the dealer about it.
The other thing it almost sounds like is a chipped tooth - except you describe it as intermittent, so I hesitate to suggest that.
