9" Ford Or GM 12 bolt!!
9" Ford Or GM 12 bolt. Which would you say is better. It'll be for daily street driving and as a weekend track car with about 500 horsepower coming out the rear wheels.

At first, I heard that NOTHING....I mean, NOTHING could break a 9"...Heck, there are 9 sec. Ford's that are still using a "beefed up" 8.8" and haven't upgraded to the 9". However, I've actually heard of a few people bustin' 9"ers. Maybe it was just a small case of build quality, maybe not.
Both have their downsides.
I'm sure others could elaborate moreso then I could.

I have also heard that 12 bolts can be broken...when I do upgrade rears I will be going with a 9"
Izzo is doing a deal on rears $2500 installed for a 12 bolt. Not sure about the 9" though

12-Bolt: Not quite as strong as a 9".
9-Inch: Heavy, More power loss then a 12-bolt, fitment issues (on occasion) and hey...it's FORD!
Bos, you may need a 9" moreso then an automatic car would simply because your M6 will put more "shock" thru the rear...
I dunno, I'll let the experts do the talkin.

Nine-inch rear with 4.11's and currently 425rwhp/400rwtq with an M6 launching at 5000.
I think I can actually hear it asking me "is that all i got".
Problem is that my Sucky Star clutch is done and I am now on final 10-day countdown to my A4 conversion.

Get the 12-bolt. You are not going to break it with your meager hp output. The 12-bolt is much better for a daily driver. Shoot Colonel an email, he will tell you why he got rid of his 9" Ford for a 12-bolt rear on his 9 sec. camaro. There are plently of folks running 9 sec. cars on 12 bolts. The aftermarket 12 bolts have stronger cases than the factory ones ever did and a Moroso Brute Strength posi will survive anything you can throw at it.

Stage 3 w/ carbon disk and aluminium flywheel.
The disk is fine, it's the yellow painted, pseudo GM pressure plate that blows.
The conversion is the Yank 4L70 w/ PYE 4000 and some other little goodies.
I've been hogtied with my clutch issues for so long now I'm starting to think my car redlines at 4000.

Re: 9" Ford Or GM 12 bolt!!
On 12 bolts most of the issues I have seen have actually been with the axles or posi's - not sure why.
On 9" it's the centersection. If you go with a cast one you may or may not break it (I did, silverpig99 did) - if you go with a nodular and a billet pinion support then you start to get in the indestructable (at our power level) area.
If the price is similar, go 12 bolt - 9"'s tend to give you problems related to pinion angle and driveline vibration. It can be solved and they can work, no question - it is just a bit mroe work.
As for diff though, I would never consider any posi "indestructable" I have seen even brand new HD posi's that refuse to spin both tires properly in a burnout. Give me a locker anyday <img src="images/icons/smile.gif" border="0">

Re: 9" Ford Or GM 12 bolt!!
If anyone is looking to get rid of a T56 please email me. I was always interested in having a 6 speed. I dont get to the track to often and the car is pretty much stock, that would be pretty nice. Thanks
