Broken Rear Diagnosis
I busted something in the rear Sat. bad enough that it doesn't move under power. NA 4500rpm clutch dump + 28in et streets + 4.10's didn't even have a chance to spray the bastard . Car broke without moving more than 6inches . Track was pretty sh*tty lots of 13.xx @ 120mph+ cars LOL!. So trailered it home thanks to McRat and I finally got around to checking it out.
So I got off my lazy keister and propped the rear up on jackstands (out on the street LOL!) so I could do some diagnosis on the rear. So first I spin the left wheel by hand and it moves freely while everything else stays still yet you can hear not to loud a metallic scraping noise. Then I go to the right wheel and spin it and the drive shaft spins too. So I go in the car turn it on...ohhh the cam sounds sweet...put it in first and engage the clutch. Well at first I thought nothing happened cause the rpms didn't drop the car didn't shake or anything and I didn't hear any noise so I was thinking I took out the clutch too. Then I go to check the left wheel and sure enough it's not moving, then I check the right wheel and its spinning quietly.
Does it sound like I twisted an axle huh? If so that means cheaper repair...right???...and then maybe sell the rear to cut the costs on a 9in or just run it and see just how strong it is.
My guess: you toasted the internals on the posi.

In So. Cal. where track prep and traction are about as rare as rainy days you almost don't have to worry about breaking rears. But I somehow manage to pull a Houston Hook outta my *** and break it on a track with less traction than a public road.

I hope you're not right .
I don't have the allen wrench socket handy. And my car is currently residing on the street stuck between some damn cars at a party next door. I'm gonna go buy the socket and yank the cover after I tow it up the driveway.
I'm hoping its just an axle cause that way I can buy one and replace it myself. It looks pretty easy according to my serivce manuals. Just those exciter protectors I don't have then again I don't have asr either. hmmm.
i don't care how much !traction, a high dump on 4.10 with sticky tires will bust them. Every time.
it just can't take that initial hit. you can probably fix it with a new diff (look at the Torsen TS (I think that's their latest one)) but if you do the same thing, same will happen.

I twisted the axle. The ring, pinon, and torsen are all intact and looking perfect. I just noticed, that the driver side wheel can be wobbled but not the other side. When I spin the driver side wheel nothing inside the pumpkin spins. Is there a non invasive way to lock the diff so I can at least move the car up the driveway under its own power.
How much is it to buy an axle, I'll prolly just replace it myself cheaply and sell the rear later on to cut the costs on a new 9in.
