Well i got a good idea from one of my mustang buddies. They are allways welding up those 8.8's. You do 4-1inch long welds on each tube across form each other. This keeps it from getting to hot and ditorting anything. The mig will be fine. Mine turned out very nice to bad it only lasted two weeks on the street.

it's not about distortion; cast iron and mild steel have different metallurgical make-ups, so using a welding process designed for one specifically will result in weakening the other, although perhaps not enough to cause a catostrophic failure.

I think the cast gets too brittle after a mig weld resulting in fractures.
