Default Clunking sound when rolling back

Took the car for a little spin today and found a new noise when I got back. Was pulling the car into the garage and pushed in on the clutch and let the car roll back maybe 5 feet, heard a clunking sound. Did it a few more times, and sure enough, the sound was still there. It's defnitely coming from the *** end of the vehicle. Doesn't make any odd noises when going forward, just backwards. Any ideas? Later next week hopefully I can get it up on a lift and see if there is anything that jumps out at me. I'm pretty sure I need to replace my pinion seal, but not sure if that could cause any problems. I changed out the rear diff fluid a few weeks ago, so I know it's topped off. Seems like one thing after another with this car.
