Help With A 3:73 Gear Question Please This may be a stupid concern. I just bought 3:73 gears for my 2000 Camaro SS 10 bolt. It had 3:42's in it stock. I just installed the gears last week. I have been driving it around every now and then but it doesn't seem much different. Should my RPM's be higher or lower than before? I have heard mixed opinions. Maybe my spedo is off? I have the Diablo Sport programmer and put in the new gear size in though. I hope the company I got the gears from sent me the right ones. I'm just not too sure

. Please help with any thoughts. There will not be a huge difference. You will need to set your computer to account for the new gears or your speedo will be off.
You can check your ratio by jacking up the car and counting the number of revolutions on the driveshaft when you rotate the tire 1 revolution.

Both gear sets use a 41-tooth ring gear. The 3.73 ratio results from an 11-tooth pinion gear. A 12-tooth pinion produces a 3.42 ratio. Without correction, your indicated speed will be your actual speed multiplied by 12/11 = 1.091. In other words, at a true speed of 70 MPH, your speedo will read 76 MPH.

Your RPM's should be higher at cruising speeds. Do the Predator tire size changes, then double check it against the calculator at www.f-body.org/gears/
