Hey guys, i have a tci ssf 4000 stall, with 2.73 gears right now. i am getting the magic stick, and want to go with steeper gears for my 10 bolt. just wondering if anyone else has this combo. 4.10's in a 10 bolt with an automatic. thanks.

Ya out to think about 3:73s The first gear ratio in the 4l60e trans is low and 4:10s are really over kill! Plus anything besides those 2:73s are a major improvement!

 

I dunno if 4.10's are great for a daily driver. I made the move from 2.73's to 3.73's recently. Umm. When you are cruising on the interstate at the posted speed limit, there is a tendancy to look at the shifter to ensure that you are in drive rather than 3rd. At least that is my case. When you let off the gas at 70mph, a slight coast and then a very noticeable drop in speed as the engine decels the car. 4.10's might be a tad too much IMHO. On the other side of the coin, get someone in here with 4.10's. See if they are a daily driver.

 

I have 4.10's in mine. It was daily driver, but not now. To me 4.10's are not that bad. I went from 2.73's to 3.42's and then to 4.10's. My mods are down below. With everything I have done now, it still isn't bad on the highway or in town. I drove it a 150 miles on the highway to get it tuned and it got around 14-15 miles to a gallon. That was driving around 70-75mph.

 

it is not a daily driver, strip only, so i don't have to worry about that. thanks guys. anyone else?

 

I'm trying to decide the exact same thing. I'm a little worried about the 10 bolt holding up with 4.10s. The only reason I now want 4.10s instead of the 3.73s I originaly planned on is because almost every car in the top 10 cam only ls1s have 4.10s. I figure there must be something to gain. I'm not to worried about the highway because I rarely use it. I also think 4.10s will tighten up the looseness of my stall which would help for driving around town. The only thing I'm worried about now is the 10 bolt. If anyone has 4.10s in the 10 bolt, please chime in and help us out. How long have they lasted? How do you like them? Did you get noticable gains at the track?

 

I think It'd be ok as long as the car doresnt go into OD, 4th gear is what ***** up all the time...

I wish my 10 bolt would have held up to 11 second times. It broke at 330 rwhp on drag radials. And that was with 3.42s.

 

i would stick with the 3.73. Augus who post on here had 4.10's in his auto and as a daily driver it sucked ***. it's a set up for the track.

 

ya i just snaped mine with 335 rwhp on street tires and it has 3.73

 

JS on this board had 4.10s with a 4000 or so converter and he was running high 10s with a fairly mild setup and crossed the traps around 6500 if I'm not mistaken.

 

Oops just noticed you have a 10 bolt. He had a Moser 12bolt.

 

yea I think 4.10's would be a little overkill for an A4, ideal setup is 3.73 with most's auto, but I'm a M6 guy, so we love 4.10's

 

My friend Jake had 4.10's in his daily driven TH350 with a ten bolt. he then went to 4.56's yes in the same ten bolt. he's one of the fastest cam only cars around here.but he only raced 1/8 mile. he has a 4600 8" converter. his best time is i think 6.75 @101. drives it to work everyday.
I have 4.10's in my TH350 with the same stall. but i have an 8.8 spooled rear in my daily driver. 60 mph at 3,000 rpm's anyone?

 

I went from 2.93s to 4.10s in my LT1 wagon. In hindsight, I should have gone with the 3.73s, as it is really twisting going down the interstate. I had originally planned on going with a T56 swap, but ended up with a built auto. We'll see how long that lasts. Anyway, I had 4.10s in a third gen with the factory 10-bolt, and I'm sure many others will agree with me that the small pinion provided by the 4.10 gearset will quickly become a weak point.

 

i went from 2.73's to 4.10's with a 10 bolt 7.5 rearend...ran great on the track and street...untill i got to the highway, it was horrable. i have a 700r4 with a 3800 stall converter and a shift kit...off the line is great...but top end sucks plan on topping out at around 95 mph if that....fun weekend burnout car..

 

So I guess 4.30's for a D.D are out of the question?

 

Topping out at 95? I have 4.11s in my ws6 with a stock 4l60e and 4000ss. It just trapped 116 in the 1/4 last weekend in third gear. How do you figure 4.10s would cause you to top out at 95 or less?

 

If it's a strip only car your probably bracket racing. With that type of racing consistancy is better than going quicker. With my SS4000 and 3.73's I'm always on the edge of traction. I can't imagine how hard it would be to hook up the 4000/4.10 combo on a consistant basis.

With strip only the only other downside I can see is breakage.
