Ultimate Tranny ?
I think the ultimate tranny for me would be a TH350 that would accept a stock type LS1 torque converter (leaving the PCM lockup features in place), have a 3.06 1st gear, work with the stock 4L60E shifter, the stock drive shaft, keep the stock speedo, and have shift points that were easily adjustable at the track (fully automatic shifting). Does such a beast exist? I'm not going to give up my 4L60E until I have too, but a bolt in and clean TH350 like that I'd be able to live with. I'd want it so the only trade off I was making was no OD (and some money).

A tranny like that exists. Many companies can make them for you. Biggest trick is getting the TH350 input shaft re-splined and the clearances changed to accept the newer style LS1 converter.
It might be cheaper to sell your converter and have a conventional lock-up style TH350 converter made similarly to your ST3800 and spare the modification costs to your TH350. Not to be pimping Yank all the time, but they have these exact conversion kits available. If you're looking for a more affordable alternative, companies like Art Carr, TCI, and JW make some killer lock-up TH350s that will do what you're looking for. Jet and FLP might have something too.

Am I right in assuming if I use my existing LS1 converter that the PCM will still control the converter lockup in 3rd? I don't mind spending $3000 on a setup when I do it, as long as I'm happy with the result.
Also what does the yank tranny tricker do? How much of the TH350 switch over cost is it?
Does yank do a 3.06 1st gear? I only saw a 2.75 on the website.
So the yank TH350 will work with the stock shifter? Can you explain how that works? IE is D = 3rd gear, 3 = 2nd gear, and 2 = 1st gear? I'd want the car setup so I could let my grandma drive it if I wanted too. <img src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" border="0">
Thanks!

Tranny tricker will trick the computer into thinking the tranny is in neutral and still there (ie 4l60E). This product will help you avoid throwing codes. Plus its all plug and play no additional costs of computer reprogramming and will make the switch back to the stock tranny easier. I'm sure if you can read wiring diagrams you can make your own.
