im no expert but wouldent you want a smaller gear for spray... the only thing i can tell you is i have 3.73's and its fine but i dont do much hwy driving compared to 2.73's im reving about 1000 more rpms @ hwy speeds.. i dont mind it but i guess its all based on how you pan to use the car if you get down this way (daytona beach) ya can check out my car and see how 3.73's r on the hwy

4.10s ARE too much for an automatic, it will really drink down the gas, and i'm pretty sure you will have run out of gear by the end of the 1/4
but with that said...
it makes an auto a BLAST to drive!

I know people with 3.73's in an A4 and they are too much in their opinion. They have to keep the car at 3k to attain highway speeds, so they are looking for a smaller gear to put in their car.
I just put 3.42's in my A4.

i'm going to borrow a dry kit from a friend to see if i'll run out of gear or not. he told me he's coming off at redline with his 373's so we'll have to see otherwise i love the 4.10's mileage in town sucks but on the highway it's not all that bad though.

I'd also say that it's just a bit too much for an A4. A buddy of mine had them in his old 98 Z. Yeah, they made the car haul serious ***, but the thing guzzled gas like there was a hole in the tank. However, driving it was an absolute blast.
If you're looking for some more punch with the A4, I'd seriously reccomend going with some 3.73s.

mileage is of no concern, i just wanted to be fairly close to the rl at the end of the 1/4. i'm sure 373s will do fine, i guess i could always switch them out at some point and see for myself...

i have them in my 00 formula. NA you'll go through the traps right at 6100 rpms in 3rd with a 25.7" tall tire.
on 200 n2o, i had to shift into 4th about 50ft before the end shifting at 6400 rpms.

I have 4.10s and a 3000stall in my o2 ws6. I have had no problem with it as far as mpg and trap speed. I run 12.6@107 on bf goodrich drag radials all night. I drive it everyday and get 19mpg in the city. On top end ive done 150mph@5800rpms. With the top gear good til 6500rpm. So whats so bad bout 4.10s? I love'em!

Maybe it was the "blast" driving habits that killed the gas mileage.
