The real skinny is that cars with high speed tires (Z rated???) got aluminum shafts and 150 MPH limiter. The rest got steel shafts and a 120 MPH limiter.

That's another thing STR helps with. A car with a higher str converter will feel "tighter", but if your running street tires that higher str will burn them off at WOT. On the highway at like 70 mph in 4th with the converter locked the car is literally at idle, I think it spins like 1,000-1,200 rpm. But to accelerate with traffic you just have to roll into it and as the rmps go up alittle the car will accelerate smoothly with the converter locked. Or if you roll into it alot the converter will unlock and your rmps will really go up.

Yeah, they deffinatly where inconsistant. I got Z rated RSAs on my car.
jpscamaro : STR stands for stall torque ratio, it's basicly a torque multiplication. Converter lock up is controlled by the computer, with tuning you can have the parameters changed. Or if you like, you can tap the PCM and put in a manual lock up switch (this will throw an "SES" light though)

Thats not exactly a true statement either....My 2001 A4 came with a steel driveshaft z rated tires and I personally buried the 150mph speedo going down New Jersey Turnpike and the car was bone stock at the time
