Pinion seal question
Pinion seal question I need to change my seal and have to borrow a torque wrench from work, our wrenches are like 10-100 inch lbs 100-150 and so on. Which one do I need to check how much torque it takes to rotate the pinion. what is it around generally. Thanks. and how much of a pain in the butt am I looking at doing this?
Ya have to put about 20 inch pounds on it! But thats with the carrier& ring gear out setting because it will add resistance to the measurement!I always do it that way because of this reason!Doesn't take me to long Guess I've done a few of them tho!

You will need to use either the dial type or maybe a beam type torque wrench. The usuall click type does not work well to set the bearing preload. They also make a little special wrench to do it with, but it's pretty much just a dial torque wrench with low settings. I also use 20 inch pounds.
