SHIFT KIT?

SHIFT KIT? my next Mod is going to be a Torque Converter with a cooler and a pair of ET streets. My question is if a shift kit is required with the TC and Cooler Combo? Will I make larger gains from having the shift kit and the torque converter?

Re: SHIFT KIT? I have a Transgo shift kit with my ST3500.. and i love it.There isnt necessarily any gains to be had from a shift kit. However, it is a nice thing to get put in.. if put in correctly <img src="gr_stretch.gif" border="0"> Its main purpose will be to firm up your shifts with the converter..as they tend to get real slushy when u put it in. Others will argue that there is a tenth to be had with a shift kit, but mainly it just makes the car more enjoyable to drive and replaces some wear parts in your tranny. <img src="gr_stretch.gif" border="0"> Good luck.

Re: SHIFT KIT? Is your car an ’01 or up? If so, you may have issues with torque management and that shift kit. TM pulls timing on WOT upshifts to easy the beating on the tranny. Sometimes (mainly in ’01 and up cars) TM is aggravated by the extra hard shifts and TM pulls A LOT more timing for a lot longer hence hurting performance.

I have an ST-3500 in my '01 Z28 and am interested about any TM issues you might have with the shift kit. I was thinking about installing a Transgo shift kit and having TM deleted. Since you have had your shift kit do you still get SES codes when driving your car in OD below 50 MPH?

I have a '02 and I just installed a TransGo kit with anticipation of a ST3800. I've driven the car around for a few errands and the shifts are VERY hard. I need to find someone local with ATap and see how much timing TM is pulling before the converter install. I wonder if it's the converter/shift kit combo or just the shift kit causing the problems.
But, what I'm thinking with the TransGo and TM problems, can't you just pull washers to soften the shifts? Has anyone tried this?
