Warped rotors

Warped rotors Ok like a lot of you I have warped rotors. I'm still under waranty but I don't want to take it in to the dealer because it would be a big hassle for me to be without my car on a weekday. Can I just take the rotors off and have them turned? Would that work at least for a little while or is it impossible to turn warped rotors?

Re: Warped rotors Unfortunately, turning the rotors will leave you with the same rotor you had earlier, only thinner. It WILL warp again on you, just a matter of time.
The stock braking power is actually quite good, but the rotor quality is low. I would look at getting a good set of aftermarket rotors if I were you, but it will require forking out the dough.

Re: Warped rotors Had mine warp at around 5K miles, had them turned. Used a torque wrench set at 90 lbs on the lugs. Haven't warped since, it's got 27K on it now. I play quite a bit in the mountains and they do get pretty hot, I've been alot harder on them since the first 5K miles. No lapping sessions or anything like that. Try it, it's worth a try.

Re: Warped rotors I have 35,000 on my 2000 SS and maybe 24 1/4 miles runs. When in Alaska I did 4 runs in a row at the track my rotors turned glowing red hot and the brake light came on. Now the rotors are blue but not warped. On my 1999 Camaro they were a problem along with my wife's 1999 & also her 2000 Monte Carlo these three cars all had bad rotors. If you turn them the may warp again in time maybe not. If you don't have BIG bucks to drop on good brakes turn them and save for some new ones. I would love a set of Bear brakes but my money tree done died. <img src="gr_sad.gif" border="0">

Re: Warped rotors Thanks for all the replys. I guess I posted that topic in the wrong forum. I think I'll have them turned and hope they don't warp again. If they do it looks like it will be time to upgrade.
