Im just curious as to what you think it is.. u know for all those races "from a roll"
And how much does this ratio matter if you have a converter. I have a ST3500 and 2.73's and im happy with the neverending pull i have..but im just wondering what is the deadliest combo would be with this converter from a roll. 3.42's?
Thanks
Just curious ehhe

I had 3.73's for a while, wasn't too terribly impressed, had the 3.23's stock but never ran a converter with them. I ran the 3.73's without and then with the ST3500 I have now and now I went to a 12 bolt (10 bolt broke!!!) with 3.42's... so far I've been pleased with both the improvement in cruising RPM - less noise - and somewhat improved gas mileage. I like the 3.42's for an all around performance gear for the street/track.

It all depends on what mph you usually race to before the win is decided. or if you have mph limit set for yourself just for safety's sake?
I would say that most, not all, races from a roll have ended by 125mph. for a converter A4 on the stock limiter with stock size tires I would then go with 3.42's. Your 3rd gear cushion w/ converter slippage would be roughly 130mph. For 3.73's the cushion is around 120mph.
Its interesting that you bring up the neverending pull of 2.73's. Well, if you were to get 4.10's sure you would have to shift into OD around 110, but the OD+4.10's will give you a 2.87 gearing. Which will still out pull that 2.73 car.

top fuel said it well.
I like my 3.73s, but the lower gears (3.23s and 2.73s) are easier to launch on street tires and can be very effective off the line.
Patrick G started this topic about 3 weeks ago and there was a good discussion about the use of 2.73s. take a quick Search for it.

It also depends on what speed you want to start from. Dead stop? Bigger gears. But you’ll notice that guys with 2.73s can downshift to first at up to like 40 mph. With my 3.23s I can only get back to first under 30. So if I run an equally modded car with 2.73s from a 35 roll I’ll get smacked off the hit (as I'm stuck in second and he's just gone back to first). It will then take a while to re-gain that ground and over take.
