I have seen too many people sink a lot of money into their 10 bolts, only to still them break. Part of the problem is the physical size, it is just too small. I have seen the teeth rip right off of a new set of Richmond gears on the first pass on a 7.5 10 bolt. GM should never of used a rear that was designed for the Chevy Monza ans S-10 and used it in the F Body's. Bob

ive heard that a solid pinion spacer instead ofa crush sleeve helps take some shock off the gears and really helps them out but no one has really yet to prove it. if i knew i could make it strong enough for my daily id go for it butthere are few and far between keeping them in one peice.

I plan on rebuilding mine, but thats becuase im not much of a drag racer, ill always have 3.42's, and the car will never see a slick.

If you do any kind of performance driving, you will need an upgraded rear. I choose a 9", and think that was the best choice, in my case. I've spent about $1,900.00 on two 10 bolts on two different cars in the span of 10 years, so I know there is NOTHING on this planet that can make a 10 bolt as strong as a 12 bolt or a 9" : . Bite the Bullet. You'll be happier in the long run.

Go to your local speed shop and have them bring out a set of 12 bolt gears and a set of 10 bolt gears and compare the 2. You will see your answer magically appear in front of you. It's amazing how puny and weak 10 bolt gears really are.

One word.....nofuckinway. Stock power levels are enough to break a ten bolt. I've seen two a4 cars break their ten bolts in the last month, both on street tires and lightly modded.

Get a 9" from Billingsly or DTS, don't even waste your time with a Moser 12 bolt unless you need an expensive boat anchor . Do a search with the word Moser and see just how many of the responses are negative. Moser just flat out sucks in customer service and product, If you choose a 12, go with at least a Strange or better yet one one of the afore mentioned builders.

A 9" is the most logical choice for these cars. The only better option would be a Dana 60 which no one makes at the current time for the late model f bods.

A 9 will not whine, is more resistant to large amounts of torque and hp, and can be easily installed. You give up having abs if you have a 3 channel setup, it uses more power to operate, and is a little bit heavier, but is much stronger and few people have any probs with a properly setup 9.

Go 9" and don't look back.
