bad pinion seal??
bad pinion seal?? Started installing my LG motorsports torque arm tonight, and I noticed I have gear lube smeared on the bottom of the diff and along the original torque arm.
I know this will lead to problems down the road, but what can it do now? can this cause my pinion to vibrate? I'm sure it will cause the ring/pinion to wear excessively. I have horrible clutch chatter, and that probably made this happen/ or get worse.
Can I change/check the pinion seal myself? I have little knowledge of rear ends, but have done a clutch in my car, so im not completely helpless.
Does the rear end need to be realigned? If so, It will probably be worth getting 3.73's in the near future (too bad I cant afford it).

Re: bad pinion seal?? The pinion bearing seals tend to weep. I replaced it twice on my 97 SS. I drag race my cars weekly, so I know im hard on the rear. I just recently replaced it on my 00SS. My experience is that most of them weep. It works its way on the rear cover, torque arm, and axle. In my opinion, I wouldnt replace it til it is actually leaking, and you see evidence on the driveway etc. I have never replaced it personally as Im not a very good wrench,but Ive watched it being done and its no big deal.Both my cars have been M6s.Hope this is helpful!
