How much abuse has tyour 12 bolt taken and still runs jsut fine? Launching, tires, shifting, non-geometric suspension, gears, Posi/Spool?, HP/TQ, what has it taken and how is it acting? Whining caused by gears YOU NAME IT
How strong is yours. (This is to be sure the 12 bolt Posi will fit my needs, rather than going 9"- and please no "forget the 12 get a 9 nonsense") I need to know
I'd prefer setups w/ Posi's and preferably Strange but strange or moser will work best. Thank you so very much

1.31 60' times with my 9" in a 3320 lb Camaro on 200 shot of NOS. I have seen 12 bolts go just a fast but with spools. I've watched a posi blow in a 12 bolt in a Firebird trying to go 10's.
Well, lets see....... My 12 bolt has been in the car now.... for..... 39 years. It has had at least four engines that I have put into it. The last two were of the 585 and 630 hp variety and it still has the OE (circa 1966) 3.55 ring and pinion in it and also uses a factory EATON limited slip. It has run middle to late 10 second times (and yes, with that ratio), been on quite a few road course's and I think I have personally put over 240000 miles on the chassis itself since I purchased the chassis back in the 80's.

Maybe, most of you guys have absolutely NO luck in finding someone that knows how to build 12 bolts ??? (and no, some of the "big guys" that you see in magizines dont really know how) Man, I dunno....... I have built a few hundred of these venerable little differentials and havent had one single client (except for those who 'just had to run Richmonds') complaint about all the gear noise I have read about on this site. I have had a few blow some teeth off a ring gear.... snap a stock axle.... or brake an axle tube loose from the center, but for christs sake..... theres more complaining in here than in a room full of woman watching their respective husbands at a nudie bar.

I am not saying I am any kind of diff god....... but hearing all of this is a friggin nitemare.
I will say that it has a fair amount to how its built, whats in it for parts and how the car/chassis is tuned. As I am sure that most here are dialing in a 'hard tune' to launch the car..... but maybe what you havent figured out is, that is exactly what brakes parts. The guys that broke ring gear teeth were making more hp and tq than most here (which is speculitive on my behalf, ~sorry~) which is pretty easy with a big block car and 600-700 NA/rwhp (8-1200 squeezin) running low 10 and some high 9's at the local 1320..... with slicks, and I mean a car that is launching good..... 1.35/1.65
How about this.... does this sound any different than what you guys are building ??
Your 12 bolt housing, straightened and tubes welded to center
A set of Mark Williams steel main caps
A set of Mark Williams "Pro Street" axles (prostreet is just a name for a set of his 30 or 33 spline axles with press-on style bearings with his housing ends)
A 30 or 33 spline EATON limited slip (but with the solid steel OE clutches)
A USGear gear set, ratio of your choice (deburred and set up correctly)
A solid crush sleeve kit
A "supershim kit'
A set of Timkin bearings
A Mark Williams 1350 yolk
3 qts of straight weight 140
1 4oz bottle of friction modifier

Most people buy a complete unit from strange or moser. With that said, build it and they will come
Just get any 12 bolt with a spool and you'll NEVER break it. A spool is perfectly driveable and NOWHERE near as bad as people say (people that say you can't daily drive a spool have probably never driven a spool).
Oh and i've been daily driving my spooledrear end for almost a year and a half and about 30k miles.

WERD X 100!
That's what I've been trying to say! Posi's blow....literally!
Don't be a fool, get a spool

BTW spools are also a couple hundred bux cheaper than a good posi.

Maybe J-Rod can chime in for this.... Can you dump the clutch @ 6600 SAFELY in a 12 bolt posi w/ 4.11's w/ 26-27" ET STREETS? or is it better to launch closer to 5 or lower? please some1 anyone who does this
I've launched a 69 camaro, 3300lbs. BBw/225 shot of NOS, auto, with a stock 12 bolt, and ran 10.70@124mph, never a problem.
A friend runs 9.60's in a 70 chevelle 3700lbs BB 598 cu. in. w/ a 12 bolt, and carries the wheels to the 60ft. line, and no problems. (yet)
I just installed a Moser 12 bolt in my '02 WS6 A4 w/373's and could'nt be happier. Bolted right in, driveshaft fit perfect. 130mph in 4th gear @5100rpm's w/ 26in. tires. Noticeable difference in acceleration from 3.23's to the new 3.73's. (Quicker) Slight howl when de-accelerating, but that seems to be fading away, as I put miles on it. I bought the tru-trac posi, 33 spline axles, 1350 yoke. 12 Bolts requires less power to turn than a 9in.
The 9in. is superior for strength, but for what i have a 12 bolt suits my needs fine
I often read a 12 Bolt is good for around 750 hp, a 9in. good for 900hp, and a Dana 60 1000hp. Estimates of course, car weight makes a huge difference.

I have 435 rwhp and 465 ft lbs of torque from 2500 rpm till I let out at about 7. I have a moser 12 bolt. I have launched the car at 6500 rpm (M6) and pulled a 1.53 with ET Streets. "LADY Driven of course!" I take it to the track at least once a week and no problems....
