Default pinion seal replaced now bad whine

I didb't have to to reaplce the seal myself so I took it to a place here in town. About a week later the rear end starts to whine, the next day it is really loud. 70 down the highway you can't hear yourself think. It does it from about 10mph on up aswell as decelerating. Could they have done something wrong. Wrong torque on the pinion nut or something? Thanks.

Yes, they put a new seal on and impacted away. New crush sleeve and seal are in order.
Look, have a shop that specializes in rear-ends put a solid spacer and shims in it. If you can't find a competent driveline tech at a "regular shop" most transmission places and 4x4 shops have a least one guy who will know. I hope.
Sorry man, sucks to be sure.

Guess I'll take it back to that shop and tell them to do it right this time, shouldn't cost anything since it wasn't done right the first time. I have to drive it for a couple more days though, is it going to be safe to drive or not?

the way you describe the whine sounds like my most recent troubles. i bet they screwed up your outer pinion bearing. thats my most recent headache.

where in tx are you? if they dont fix it and you live near me ive got an awesome guy to fix it for you.

I wouldn't drive it! They over torqued it.

when they over tighten it, it puts so much load on the bearing, so the pinion bearing might need to be replace too

Yep, they overtorqued the pinion nut. For you to hear the whine over your exhaust set-up (LT's & TSP duals), it must be damn loud. I'll bet they impacted that sucker on good. Good luck getting it fixed.

Well turns out the pinion bearings are bad. They are being replaced now along with the carrier bearings.

All fixed now. They only replaced the pinion bearings. It sounds so much better now, seems smoother too. O and the guy that owns the place just got done building a Noble m400 for his brother. Man that thing is nice. Like 450hp and weighs 2100lbs. Nice..
