The drive shaft was definately the first weak link on my Camaro. I personally know of three different people (including myself) that broke the stock driveshaft before hurting anything else in the stock rear end. They all broke in exactly the same spot too...right in front of the rear end.

Here's a picture of my stock driveshaft when I was making 288rwhp and cutting 2.0 or slower 60 foots at the track. heh..



One thing to think about is your transmission...A hard hitting 6-speed car should probably go with a strong steel or better driveshaft. I'd put a 3.5" aluminum driveshaft on most foot braked automatics though. I ended up getting a good deal on a 3.5" Denny's aluminum for my 6-speed and haven't had any problems so far.

Sometimes luck is enough. We will see what happens when I actually put some power down in like 4 years when I get back to the states
