Default which gears ?

i have a 96' lt1 automatic and i have 3.23 gears what would be better for a lil bit of track but mostly street 3.42's or 3.73 street like from rolling 25-30mph to like 135-140mph

Going from 3:23's to 3:42's wouldn't be worth doing, they are too close together. I went from 2:73's to 3:42's and seen a good gain. If your going to do it the 3:73's would be the best for the track. The 3:23's would be better for the highway.

I would do the 3:42's since the car sees little track time, an you will notice a differance.
Plus save a little gas also

Go for the 3.73. As stated above the 3.23 to 3.42 is not really noticable.

Done it before on my other car. Trust me and go with the 3.73s, or you'll wish you had. You won't even notice the diff if you go to the 3.42's. You do know it costs some bread to install gears don't you?? For the money you're sonna pay, you'd better feel a diff.

if you're just looking for gains...i'd get a converter. the 323s are plenty when coupled with a stall converter, say 3k in your case. you'd smash anything from a dig, almost anything from a sub 40 mph roll, and still maintain your mileage on the highway.

i have 4.10s in my A4...and love them!! i just go to the track too often and im hitting OD about 30 feet before the finish, so im backing down to 3.73's and then with the converter i'll still be in 3rd. As of now 3rd ends at about 110 and im trapping at 111-112. so if you don't go to the track and you just want a fast street car..go 4.10's. 60mph is 2300 rpms and 80 is 3000.

I'd stay 3.23s if you like top speed runs.
