Default How hard is it to change the pinion and carrier bearings?

First of all, I did a search, but most of what I found dealt with gear swaps or pinion seal replacements. I'm looking at the bearings in the rear end also, as stated. I'm concerned about screwing up the backlash and any other settings in my rear end. I've done the wheel (axle) bearings before, no problem. The only thing with those is that I didn't have to really take apart the rear end. I have a decent set of tools; nothing too extreme, but usually enough to get by. Am I going to be ok with this, or should I take it to a shop? How much should I expect to be charged? Thanks.

The bearings have a very tight tolerance and all the adjustments people usually do are because of other gears. You can replace the bearings and keep the original spacers and shims. The pinion bearings will have to be preloaded by torque.
