Default Posi

Okay, I need a couple questions answered by you guys, so help me if you can. I think I broke my stock posi unit, I've done a few burnouts and I am only leaving ONE tire mark. If its broken it doesn't necessarily have to make noise does it? I heard something come from the rear a couple weeks ago, but it stopped and now it sounds normal. My next question is the same posi unit used in different carrier rear ends? And if I change just the posi and not gears, can I just slap one in the rear end, or do i need to "set it up" like a normal gear swap, with the backlash measuring and all that? Thanks for any help guys.

Ya might can find a whole rear end in the forsale secion about a cheap as ya can by one most of the carriers are going to be close to the oems but still need to be checked! But you can just swap the carrier ya might as check everything out while ya there to Ya could freshen the rear bearings up while u r in there! May cost if ya not doing it yourself though!

If it is a Torsen unit then a one-wheel peel is
not out of the question. All it takes is for sticking
tire friction to be more than 2X spinning tire to
make the Torsen give up, then you won't break
loose the other wheel. Factor in the right tire lift
and it's very likely.

Not that it couldn't be busted, but single stripe
is not sufficient to condemn it.

I dont think its a torsen. Its just the stock rear in a 97 Z28, not an SS either. It always used to leave two marks. But my real question is, can I just bolt in a new posi?? I know what I SHOULD do, with bearings and everything, but this is just gonna be temporary anyways, until i get 4:10's in the spring probably. So if i dont change the gearing, i dont need to check backlash and everything do i?

put it in gear then raise car up from the rear and spin the passenger tires and see if the driver side tire spins or not
