Hell, that's the easy part. 8.8's come that way. Most any late model ford cars with a v8 came with them. Dime a dozen.

I think that an 8.8 would be better suited for a guy that can weld and design a homemade 4 link set up. I have been thinking about this. I am not a good welder, but I have someone that is willing to help with the welding. I think that a 4 link could be done for about $1k with a decent used 8.8

No, not for the most part. An 8.8" is a lot heavier than a stock 10-bolt (I know, I've built plenty of them and installed several), but also lighter than a 9" by some margin.

One thing I don't hear too many people talk about is getting rid of the torque arm all together and making a 4 or 5 link setup on the F-bods. A built 8.8 and a 4 link setup in the car could be done cheaper than the 3 grand it takes to swap a torque arm 9" into the cars.

Looking at that aftermarket torque arm... why couldn't a person make something similar to the part that bolts onto where the rear cover mounts and then bring it underneath to where most people have welded their torque arm mounts? If done correctly, a person could almost have a torque arm mount that bolts on. Just an idea.

8.8 is a good rear end without a boubt, the GM 8.5" is just as durable(74-81) i have used them in plenty 3rd gen mods.my next rear swap will be on my 95z and will be the 8.5 along with G-force rear kit it just makes it easier to instal NO TQ ARM,using the g-force kit will allow you to instal virtually any rear end you want.JMO
