I'm a auto-tranny newbie, so if these questions are elementary, forgive my ignorance.
I've run into a big snag on my TH350 install.
The mounting bolt holes on my Vigilante 2800 torque converter do not match the mounting bolt holes on a stock LS1 flexplate. The bolt holes on the flexplate are approximately 2-3 mm further out from the center than the mounting holes on the TC. The Vigilante torque converter I have came out of a LT1 camaro that had the very same TH350 installed in it. (I bought it all from a friend.)
So my question is: Do I have the wrong torque converter, or do I just need a different flexplate?
Another question: Did those those of you that had a Vigi TC put on their LS1 run into the same issue, or did it bolt straight up, no problemo?
Yet another question: On the stock LS1 flex plate, one of the mounting bolt holes is smaller in diameter than the others, and is oblong-shaped. Is this a 'key' to make sure the torque converter is mounted only one way - similar to the way a M6 has dowel pins on the stock flywheel so the pressure plate goes on only one way?
Last question: Those of you that have already installed a TH350, what did you use as far as flexplate and torque converters?
TIA for any help anyone can give!

I ran into this problem with my TH400 install and a JW converter. I had bought a new flexplate and the holes didn't line up. All I did was sit the flexplate on top of the converter with the hole in the center of the flexplate going onto the crank pilot on the converter. Then I rotated it, marked new holes, and drilled them out. I was afraid it wouldn't be balanced but it is running strong with no problems at all. As far as there being a "Key" hole I dont think there is. I didn't see any this different about the holes when I installed it.

dean...
on a new from chevy flywheel your not going to get the dual pattern bolt holes.
if you get a used one that came on a car from the factory, the converter will bolt up using the second set of holes.
if you be needing any other info shoot me a mail. i might be able to get you a used flywheel just lemme know

Thanks Steve, I've been getting the same information you posted, so it looks like my problem is a "new" flexplate that won't match the TH350 TC.
Crap, I knew the swap was going too smoothly to be true!
I'll see if I can find one of the "older" LS1 flexplates locally, but I'll definitely keep you in mind if I can't.
