Default Are 4.30 Gears To Much

In the near future i will be getting a rear-end most likely a Ford 9inch. And i was wondering whether getting 430 gears will be to much, or get the 4.11s? I am really looking into staying all motor going heads and cam for now then jumping into a different motor later on. But i was wondering if you guys think the 430's will be to much for the street. Any opinions would be great Thanks

No. you will need to figure out trap speed and tire height for the track to make sure you will not need to hit 5th.

If you have a 6 speed then not even a 4.56 would be too much for the street. I think that 4.30 is about perfect for a 6 speed car if you want to race it. A friend of mine went from a 4.10 to a 4.30 and loves it. He said that the 4.30 got rid of the slight bog that was still there with the 4.10 after launch.

I have them on a stock SS. 1st gear is useless on street tires If you mod the motor you will run out of rpm in the 1/4 unless you bump up the rev limiter or go to taller tires. I run out of rev in the quarter now, about 100 yards from the end, trapping 109 with a 6400 rpm rev limit and BFG DR's.

BTW, dropped .4 in the quarter - traction limited to 2500 rpm launches

I had 4.11's and went to 4.22's and I cant say I really liked the change. I will probably be swapping back soon.

4.33's you WILL need to run a 27" tall tire if you plan on running past ~118mph unless you have an ungodly rev limiter.

I believe 4.10's and 26" top out at 118 with a 6700rpm limiter.

would 130mph be feasible with 4.56's running 28x10.5W tires and holding it to 7300rpm? Im thinking that I might need to step down to 4.30's if I am looking for that trap speed.

With 4.56s on a 28" tire, you would hit 133.4 mph at 7300 rpm. With 4.30s, you would hit 141.5 mph at 7300 rpm.
