Worth it to have the trans fluid flushed?

Worth it to have the trans fluid flushed? I will start by saying I have two mechanic friends who have differing opinions. One says that it would be good idea to have one of the machines hooked up to it, the other says that since I now have a drain plug I can just drain it, refill it, drain, refill....until the fluid looks really clean. Can anyone relay their experiences with either of these methods. I am having trans problems (noise in 4th before downshifting to 3rd at part throttle) and I changed the fluid (dirty, but not burnt) and filter the other day and it got alot better so I am just tryin to make sure that I have nothing but good fluid in there before I start checking more expensive things.

Is it the stock tranny?
How much abuse has it seen?
A flush can never hurt, but you might have problems with it now that a flush wont fix. I pulled my 99 tranny out with 32K on it and it was pretty much toasted. All bands and clutches were done. Good luck with it.

Re: Worth it to have the trans fluid flushed? The car has 46K on it now, the converter went in at 36K exactly and I also have a trans cooler installed. thanks for you reply. Mods are in the sig.
