Default 12 Bolt at an advantage?

I've been considering a 9" for my 99 TA 6-speed here recently, and I've had more than one person tell me that a 12 bolt is better.....Though they didn't give me an explanation...

Is there any truth to this?

well, usually people will go 9in if they are making a lot of power with an M6, autos usually can get away with just a 12 bolt, but if you arent making that much power, id say go 12 bolt. i dont think you can get a limited slip on a 9in.

Well they are both great options for the stock 10 bolt. I usually recommend the 12 bolt to my customers that are under 700 rwhp, or have 3 channel ABS. Someone with less HP I would only recommend the 9" if you need the quick gear change/center section capability. There are advantages and disadvantages to each, but neither is a bad choice

12 bolt - less power to turn = less drivetrain loss, but the entire rear is heavier

9" - more power to turn due to high pinion angle = more drivetain loss, but the entire rear is lighter

i went with a 9" just for a peace of mind. ive heard of 12 bolts breaking, but not a 9". not to say it hasnt happened, but i havent heard about it. It didnt cost much more over the 12 bolt so i figured why not. Its much stronger than the 12 bolt also. As mentioned before, it takes more power to move it, but its worth it when you can launch at 5500 or even 6k w/o worries.

Thanks guys, I've got a 6-speed, and I have heard that a 9" will handle a 5,000 clutch dump alot better than a 12-bolt, but I wanted to check before buying one

Thanks again,

-Will
