Default Which way to go??

So, I found out today that I need to rebuild or replace my rearend, due to my limited slip going out (I was given specifics, but dont remember all, something about clutches and stuff). I am more of a detailing man and dont know more than basics about drivetrain, so I come to you guys.
First off I have a 97 TA that I plan on building up a little more (~400rwhp) and currently have a full suspension set up. I want it for show, straite line and autox. I do not want to go the cheapest route, but dont want to go the most expensive. I want a good setup that will handle a lot of power for a good price ($1-2K?).
So my options are (as far as I know)
Rebuild kit
Rebuild and build to handle more power
New race prep 10 bolt
New 12 bolt
Used 12 bolt
Race prep 12 bolt

So my questions are,
Which would be the best for my setup?
What gears/brand should I get?
What rear end brand? (if you rec and new one)
How much am I looking at?
Is it an easy install? if not then how much will I be looking at?
What else should I do while I'm at it?
Any other info I would need?

Thanks a lot in advance!

I have seen these 10 bolts get murdered with an LS1 being totally stock, behind a six speed. If you have an automatic, you stand a better chance of the 10 bolts survival. I honestly would not spend any money into trying to get the 10 bolt to live unless you have an automatic, and even then it is a gamble. $2,350.00 will get you a Moser 12 bolt w/True trak complete with the optional 33 spline axles, ABS or ABS/TCS, and the Performance (T/A style) aluminum cover. Shipping is paid by the customer when the rear-end arrives freight collect. Deduct $135.00 if you don't want the optional cover, deduct $100 if no ABS or ABS/TCS, deduct $65.00 for 33 spline axles. At 400rwhp a 12 bolt will suit you fine. If this car is not your daily driver and you have some time to wait to buy a rear you can often find a 12 bolt in the for sale section fairly cheap. Also some of the sponsors will do a gp on them every now and then. If you just want to buy one right off a lot of the sponsors sell them.

I have a customer who is having me pick his car up today, we're going to add a better fuel system to it. He had us install a Moser 12 bolt last year, I'm not sure as this moment what options he has, but he's thinking of having us install a Moser 9 inch in it's place, before he starts hitting the track with this car, as it's going to be at 650+ rwhp. The car is featured in my project car section, it is the T/A that we put an OBX front mount intercooler in. I would imagine you could get this still as new rear for $1,600.00 from him. Bob

Bob, I've been told, from a great source, that the True-Trak requires 31 spline axles. Can you use 33 spline with a True-Trak? Thanks.

If you can get one for that price you should jump all over it.

I'm going to call dibs on that 12bolt, but have a few questions about it. What all does that one include? How many miles on it? What kinda warrentee can you give? (just dont want to buy a rear end that has been thrashed and ends up breaking after a couple thousand miles)

And what is the difference between a 33 and a 31 spline axle and what does it do? And what is True-Trak?

Also I have heard that LS1 driveshafts are better and lighter than LT1 driveshafts, it this true?

BTW my car doesn't have the traction control and its an automatic with 93K on it.

Also Bob, your site link doesn't work, so do you have a link to the pics of the car the rearend was in?

Thanks again

Anyone have links to some info on the Moser 12 bolt and the Strange 12 bolt?
And I have been reading a lot about these rear ends whining, what is up with that and usually it sounds like it starts early on in its life. I dont want to have to be fixing my rear end every couple thousand miles. I dont really make enough money to constantly be fixing it. Thanks again

Great! That's a feather in Moser's cap.
