If you go to any S-10 boards you could pick up a set of 3.73's really cheap. We usually dump the 3.73's for 4.10's or 4.56's. I'd sell you mine but i'm not sure if i'll use those or 4.10's in the TA yet. Also i've installed 3.73',4.10's. and 4.56's in 10 bolts and never had whine issues.

Thanx appreciate the replies, I'm pending sale on a set of 3.73s from a member here. I just want to make sure I ask questions before its to late. So you guys think I'll be ok with the ratech complete install kit and the GM gears? Any compatability issues??

I'm on my second set of 3.73 GM Factory gears and never had any noise at all from them. They have a higher nickle content form my understanding. This is supposedly why they are stronger than aftermarket gears and since they are harder, they're supposed to be louder, but, like I said ... never any noise on either set. Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong.
Only reason I'm on the second set is the tranny shop either did not torque them to spec OR they didn't use loc-tite. Bolts backed out and cracked the posi housing.

Im not too informed when it comes to a rear gear swap or procedure.
Thanx

If he is a good installer he should already know that, the only reason the backlash is set like that is because we are already assuming the gears are broken in so they can be set a little looser than new if need be. If they are used i'd still set them at around 8 or so, gears set to loose will annoy you and be weaker but set to tight they will whine. So many guys set up gears by touch, if they are good then its fine but most of the time they suck and end screwing up a install. If you trust them to install the gears and know they do good work you shouldn't have any problems.

Gears are all in the install. I've had quite a few gear sets installed, and I finally gave up and went to the dealer, NO NOISE at all. It was well worth my $$$, I've taken gears to a few tranny shops and well, I had a jet engine, and a grumble sound on different installs, after the dealer installed them, flawless.

I'm purchasing the Genuine GM 3.73 gears with the master install kit all for $275. I could get Richmond 3.73's with an install kit for over 300, but I can get all that for cheaper. I hear good things about GM gears, so I'll go with them. Does anyone know if the install kit comes with EVERYTHING the installer will need? I want it to include all the crush sleeves, and bearings etc.
Does anyone know which/how much gear oil I should get, and how much of the GM Limited Slip Additive I would need?
