Whining rear end
Than i would back off the gas and it wouldnt make anymore noise. What could be wrong? I bought this from a friend.
Yukon, Superior, Prescision, Spicer etc..... All have been utilized in applications with no hint of added gear noise over the stock Jeep gears made by Spicer. IMHO, the whining is coming from an improper setup on the gears and backlash. I've heard Moser sets their rearends up "tight" from their factory to make the rear stronger but will result in more noise.
I run auto lockers in my Jeep application and when locking and unlocking they make a ratcheting sound that is muffled somewhat by using a 85W-140 gear oil over standard 75W90. HTH
I drove the car yesterday an dthe noise is better described as a HOWL especially above 40 mph. it is very loud to the point that it echos off of the jersey barriers on the side of the road.
it also has noise coasting to. just not as constant
this sounds just like a 8.8 i rebuilt last summer where the pinion bearings were so blown that the pinion was "digging" into the ring.
I think he needs a ring + pinion, bearings and a decent setup.
I will do it for you mike, but i have to buy a universal pinion depth tool. I only have ones for fords.
