Gears kill topend?
i think 4.10 is faster but when you hit 5th its al over......
at what speed do you have to put in 5th gear? 120?

anyhow a top speed burst would prolly be done in 5th.
Consider this.
3.42 = in the area of 170mph -180mph depending how muchpower you got.
3.73 = 170 or a lil more
4.10 = 150 or so
this is a very easy way to understand the gear concept.
you will out accelerate stock for stock every gear against a lower numerical rear-end gear car.
i.e
take 2 cars, identical dyno numbers and track times with identical drivers. one with
4.10's and the other with 3.42.....
if u run each car gear for gear against each other you will see that 3rd gear with 4.10's will be much stronger than the 3.42.....till 3rd gear runs out in the 4.10 car.. then here comes mr. stock gear spankin your *** till he has to hit 4th. this is a repeat process. which will really start to show the fast you get goin...
a lot of people dont understand that 5th gear is an overmultiplication in the T56. the idea is to run your 1:1 (4th) as long as possible while making the most power.
im sure most of the 4.10 owners dread racing a stock geared 6speed on the highway because they know the race is over past 115...
off allllll the mods i have, i wish i could take back the gears.
anyone wanna trade for there stock 3.42 rear-end????

Play with these numbers for awhile. You can see where given cars have a mechanicla gearinf advantage at given speeds. I have 4.10's and have to shift to 5th at 117 at which point a 3.42 car gas a 0.39 total maechanical advantage on me. They shift to 5th at 134 at which point I have a 0.50 mechanical advantage through 150+. It is all there for you.

alot of speed, especially on the street.
I blew the posi & put another rear in with 3.42's
over the winter. Car definitly feels slower.
Probably will go with 3.73's
or 3.90's when I get my new rear (9" or Dana 60)
