Efficiency with a TP4400?
I dyno'd my car the other day and it made 354 hp locked and 328 unlocked. This was the last pull of 4, and I feel the results are pretty trustworthy.
This is around an 8% loss.
Is this normal?

I can't answer about drive train loss but,WOW,354HP,stock internals.
I will be running mine on the dyno soon and would like to compare with yours. What were your Tq.#s ?What did you use to lock up the vert.?
Our cars have run within .05 most of the time,it will be a good comparo.

Re: Efficiency with a TP4400?
Mike,
The Pro Thruster usually looses about 20-25 rwhp over the stock converter on the chassis dyno, but it's actually much more efficient than it would appear on paper. That's the big reason why racers don't gain much in ET or mph by locking the converter up at the track. Also, the PT4400 will be most efficient in the 6000+ rpm range (more like 6500 rpms). You may not see that result on a dyno-jet, but you will at the track.

Wow, 354!, through an A4 with a big a stall? WOW!, With stock internals? <img border="0" alt="[hail]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_hail.gif" />
That is awesome.
Your numbers sound great to me.
BTW, when I was running stock internals I only dynoed 321 locked/307 unlocked with the TP4400 yet I was running 11.56 with a 1.501 60's.
(That should give you an idea how bad *** your numbers are)
Dyno-shmyno......your numbers are BAD ***!

Re: Efficiency with a TP4400?
Thanks for the replies guys.
jfm -- Jason99T/A and i locked the convertor by grounding out the green wire with the black stripe. Really easy, and really ghetto too!
The car made 362 ftlbs of torque locked, and something like 412 unlocked. I think Paul stabbed the throttle from somewhere around a 3500 punch.
Patick, I couldnt tell by your reply, but is there any gain to be had in locking up this convertor?
And I take it you see nothing wrong with the HP difference between my locked and unlocked numbers, which means I see no problem.

Re: Efficiency with a TP4400?
That's the largest percent loss for a YTP 4400 I've seen. Did you ATAP the locked run? When I've locked my converter in 3rd gear I've found that I often pick up some KR doing it.
BTW, amazing dyno #s. With full bolt-ons (except LS6 intake) and a ST 3500 I dynoed less than 320 HP unlocked.

Re: Efficiency with a TP4400?
Patrick is correct Mike.
On my heads/cam car I switched from another brand converter (aprox 4500 stall) which had a difference of 38rwhp between locked, and unlocked on the dyno. We dynoed the 4400 yank it had 28rwhp difference between locked and unlocked. but man at the track....my et dropped 4 tenths ( actually close to 5 tenths) added in a ls6 intake and I was running a full 0.6 sec faster et.

Re: Efficiency with a TP4400?
locking up the converter is hit or miss. Almost everyone will pick up mph in the traps if they do it correctly, but many people do not reduce their ET, and a few actualy increase their ET when using lockup switch.
