Default I Broke something!!!!!!

Well I was driving today on my way to meet up with a buddy and f***** up my car. I was getting on the on-ramp on 441. I canned on it and.........POP followed by a really bad grinding sound. Not sure if its the Tranny or rear end. I got it towed for FREE to my buddies Tranny shop. We will be taking a look at it tomorrow.

I highly doubt the rear-end broke from a roll with an a4. That would be pretty rare. My guess is it's the tranny or something totally differnt.

I agree unless he punched it before it got straight and he had too much traction on one side and then he could of very well broke a tooth. That would not be anything $$ compared to a tranny rebuild.

I had it in first then put it to the floor. I have done this a million times. I knew something was going to go. The car has 115,000K on it. It was only a matter of time. I have kept it well maintained but have Drag raced it as well as autox the hell out of it the past 2 summers. I have a hard time thinking it is the tranny it never acted up. However when my gears were done the mechanic said the axle was pitted and he put an axle saver bearing in.

I'll take my comment back then. If you've already had some problems with the rear it could very well be that then.

IT WAS THE REAR!! Half of the teeth on the ring are Sheared off. THe car originally had 2.73 can I go with 3.42 with out changing the carrier. If so my buddy said he would give me His 3.42's Now we are hoping the Posi is not fried.

That's just insane. A 2.73 rear with an a4 and you broke it. Something's not right there. GMmuscle is running like 10.20 with his a4 and 2.73's (stock 10-bolt)

I didn't mean that comment in a bad way, just makeing sure I read right. I didn't know that they allowd auto's on the tracks, I thought they had really strickt rules on what cars could run, and what class they ran it, sorry bout the 10 bolt man...

No Worries. When the rear broke I had the Richmond 3.73 thick gear NOT 2.73. Can install 3.42 on a series 2 carrier.

I've never heard of them "not allowing an auto on the track", but I think its pretty widely known that autos generally suck for Auto-X'ing. They just don't offer the control and power that a manual has on a tight track.

Oh yea, I know that they are nowhere near as good for Auto - Xing, but w/a cooler and upgraded brakes they wouldnt do bad at all.

IDK, I guess I just assumed b/c they have such tight rules on what car fits into what class that having a auto would mean that you would have to be in a class all of your own, with hardly any one else to run with.

Its not only the engine braking and heat buildup thats a concern, but more importantly the automatic downshift programming. When you power out of a turn in a manual, you keep it in gear to maintain traction and floor the throttle. With an auto, its going to kickdown if you jump on the throttle coming out of the turn, and then you go sideways and lose a considerable amount of time.

Bottom line - Autos and Autocrossing don't mix well.
