I broke my 2000 Z28 steel driveshaft so i went to a junkyard and bought an aluminum driveshaft from a 2002 Z28...which I pulled off myself and it fit the 02. I tried putting it in my car and its about 2 inches too long. WTF! Both cars are autos. What driveshaft from what year do I need to buy so this doesnt happen again?

i was under the impression that all driveshafts ( V6 and V8) from like 80 something till 02 were the same, aside from being either aluminum or steel. auto and manual. thats pretty weird. can anyone clarify on this?
