Default 8.5" Question.

Hey Guys,
What all is needed to run a 1969 Camaro 8.5" rear end under a 1984 Camaro. Im needing the torque arm bracket, lower control brackets, and coil spring mounts. Anything else needed for this set-up.

Thanks guys,
Ricky

GM didn't make 8.5's in 1969.

I realize the 12 bolt or the almighty 9" is the better way to go, but $2200 is not an option. I have a guy that can do the welding, I just need a source for the brackets.

Thanks,
Ricky

I never said the 8.5 was bad theres some cars running well with them.but taking a leaf spring housing with no T/A mount would be a pain in the *** to fit.I speak from a fabrication stand point

Actually if it is a 1969 rear it is an 8.2. Easy to ID. Take the cover off and it will have 3/8 ring gear bolts with 9/16 hex heads. I would not waste the time fabricating brackets to make one of these fit. Maybe an 8.5 but not an 8.2.

It can be done. I seen a Gale Banks third gen 8.5 a long time ago with the T/A brackets welded to the axle tubes, they bolted together around the pinion area so there was no cast iron welding. Most of the strength came from the brackets being welded to the tubes anyway.
