Default BEST GEAR WITH STOCK REAR END dAILY DRIVER?

Well I do not have the money for a 9" or 12 bolt. How safe is it to install 4.10 or 3.73 I know that 4.10 risky, but people have been telling me its not even worth it to change my stock gears out becasue I will end up breaking the new ones. My mods bellow and a cam is on the way. I have a six speed car, that I drive pretty often. Any help would be great thankd guys

yea, puttin in gears on a stock 10 is not to good of an idea, but keep in mind if your not gonna be beating/launching it/ with Et's or DR's you should be fine, but if u plan on using that stock rear with those gears, kiss that 10 good bye. dont waste the money, save up for the 12, you will be more happy. do some more power adders than swap that rear!

I currently have the GM 3.73s daily driver. Great acceleration, even thoo 4.10 advocates will disagree. And I kept 3.73s becuase I want 5th gear to yield a higher top speed. 4.10s are good on the drag strip but not in a 10 bolt. A 12 bolt or a 9in would be more adequate. Since I dont drag I dont worry about my gears breakin. I do however wanna eventually upgrade to sumthing more fit for road racing.

4.10s have thin teeth and tend to break more easially. That being said they are a must when you raise your rev limiter. (ie after cam install) The biggest downside to 3.73s is that you won't notice a huge difference from a 3.42.

i had the stock 3.42's in my car. when they blew, i didn't have the cash for a better rear end, so the few hundred bucks for some new gears was what i had to settle with at the time. (last fall) now the rear end is out, and i'm going with 9inch. i had the 3.73's put in last fall, and for a daily driven car, they were perfect, i could still cruise on the highway no problem, and it was enough to give me a little more kick stop light to stop light. i also heard that the 4.10 gears have thinner teeth and are more prone to break, that's why i went with 3.73's!

Like you said, daily driver with some kind of street tire, you should be fine as long as you don't beat on it too much
