Howling Noise from 45-25 deceleration! What's wrong?
Still have the 10-bolt, the spider gears got chewed up so I went with a Auburn Pro Series Limited Slip Differential with my same 4.10 gears. We installed it ourselves to save money, but why is there a howling noise? It bothers me, but it might be okay because I raced with it like that and nothing tore up. We have to use a spacer and shims to get it where there is barely any play. Any inteligent insight would be appreciated.

We took it to a friends' shop and had it measured. I have since decided to get rid of this thing over the weekend and buy a Moser. Tired of messin' with it! (We never got new bearings, but we did have trouble with the shims.) I don't think we want to do rear-ends every day-they are a little more complicated than the engine. Thanks!!

When the spider gears chew up the debris goes right into the oil channel that feeds the pinion bearings. My guess is that the pinion bearings are full of garbage.
By the sounds of the first posts "spacer and shims" I got the impression it was refering to an aftermarket pinion spacer with adjustment shims.
