Yank TC question
sure which one would be the most right one for me.
I read some stuff about torque converters, though i
still have questions.
My car is stock, i dynoed it and I got 314 HPs and 331
of torque.
I'm looking at
Yank Super Yank 3500 Torque Converter, 258mm, Super
High-Efficiency, soft launch, 3500 stall, 1.61 STR
OR
Yank Super Thruster 3500 Torque Converter, 245mm
High-Efficiency, hard hitting launch, 3500 stall, 2.5
STR
well, looks to me they are almost the same besides
hard hitting launch and soft launch things(what's the
difference?).
What are those numbers at the end 2.5 STR, etc.
I'm not a racer, but i still like the thunder <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
the car is my daily ride, so i'm concerned about the
mileage
Is it normal the car throws SES lights after a TC was
installed ? I saw it on my friends car.
Anything, anyone <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />
Thank you

Aftermarket converters and your PCM:
NO CONVERTER COMPANY IS PERFECT. Back in the day...98~99 Vigi's would unlock like mad. Folks wouldn't drive their cars to the track because the trannies wouldn't lock up. Some folks have used different sized tires, HPP3 speedometer settings and other "tricks" to get their converters to lock up. On the other hand, Yanks seem to have a problem in 2001-2002's when the PCM mistakenly believes the verter is slipping too much, it has set a trouble code in some folks cars. This is usually fixed by keeping it in 3rd and not OD.
and someone just told me it's gonan kill me, i will have to refill my gas tank so often that i will be poor <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" />
anyone else drive thier cars mostly in the city <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />

I think you should go with a Y3000 if you rarely go to the track and are just wanting a little oomph. I just bought the ST3500, but my car is more of a track car.
Do some research on the Y3000, I believe it will be just what you are looking for <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
The Best V8 Stories One Small Block at Time
if running Nitto's or ET's go with ST @ 2.50 STR ( will hit hard and be impossible to hold with street tires ) gas milage be about the same on open road , be little less in town
Mike @ Yank has fixed the code problem
STR= TORK MULTIPLIER HIGHER ## hit harder
MPG loss will be 1 - 2 mpg.
Install a cooler. a 19000 GVW plate type cooler will be fine.
Get a good cooler and some sticky tires. <img border="0" alt="[Burnout]" title="" src="graemlins/burnout.gif" />
Feels good at the track and on the street
as far as MPG... I get like 15mpg but my driving habits aren't exactly the best... If I drove the car normally i could probably get 21 or 22
I really appriciate !
so, essentially:
Yank Torque Thruster 3000 3.0 Torque Converter, 265mm, 3000 stall, 3.0 STR
and
Yank Super Yank 3500 Torque Converter, 258mm, Super High-Efficiency, soft launch, 3500 stall, 1.61 STR
are they actually give the same numbers on the track ?!
the first one has smaller stall speed but hits harder, right ?
I like the first one <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
