Gear Tune?
Gear Tune? I am putting new gears next week (Motive 3:73, stud girdle kit, cover plate and new seals & such) do I need to or do you recomend that I have the computer re-tuned for it? I have 3:23 gears now. I also went from a 17x9 wheel, 275/45/17 tire to a 18x10 wheel with a 295/35/18 tire, should I have it (the computer) reprogramed? I am having FASTCHIP (Ed Wright) do the tune and dyno mainly because he is the one who tuned it when I got my new cam. Can he "tune" the car on the dyno and get as much HP, shift points, timing, tune for bigger tires, adjust speedo, etc, etc? Or should I wait until I get a stall and then have him do it?
If you don't have it retuned for the gears then your speedometer will be off. So no, it won't be the end of the world, but you will have to be careful to not speed when you are driving it. He can take care of that on the dyno or through a mail order tune.
As far as 'when'....I guess it depends on when you are getting your stall. If you're putting it in the next couple of weeks, then yeah I would just wait. If it's gonna be a while then have it tuned as-is now and see him again when you get the stall in.

Going with steeper gears will make the speedo read higher than what it actually is, thus putting more miles on the car than it actually has. If it's gonna be a while before the stall then I would get it tuned for the gears soon. If possible just install the gears AND converter at the same time, then you could tune it all at once and be done.
yea my friend went from 2.73 to 4.10 in his 96 stang and it definalty made teh odometer roll faster no big deal if we saw a cop we knew about what speed we where going based on the RPM, but when he went sell it. it made the car look a little bad since the mileage on the odometer was higher than it actually was and not everybody wanted to believe him.
