3.73 gear question

3.73 gear question

I just purchased a set of motive 3.73 gears for my 2001 a4 camaro z28. It came stock with the 2.73 gears and is a dog in the 60 foot times. I was just wondering if anyone knew if you needed the same gear paddles for the 3.73's as they recommend for the 4.10's. I will be installing them myself and want to make sure i have all of the needed parts before i tear out the old gears.

?? Gear paddles ??

By this, do you mean the reluctor ring ?? If it is what you mean.... then no, you will not need a different ring...... unless it gets damaged upon disassembly/reassembly.

Did you buy thick gears or a 3 series diffirential? I don't think Motive makes the thick gears and if you didn't buy a series 3 diff, the gears won't fit! 2.73s use a 2 series diff!

But, to answer your question, all of the 3.73s I have installed fit without modifying the paddle!

He means the paddles for the torsen.

I really doubt you will need them. You probably have an auburn anyway.

Ahhh..... the oil directors.

I think you are right.... an 01 A4 Z with a torsen ? Its most likely an Auburn.

The 3.73s wont fit the 2 series carrier thats in the 2.73 rear end. It has to be a 3 series carrier for the 3.73 unless you got the 3.73s that fit the 2 series carrier.

Thanks for the info guys. I checked and motive does make gears for the 2 series carrier but they will not be available until early 2007. So i am exchanging the motive's for the richmonds that are made to fit a 2 series carrier. Hopefully ill have them in within the next two weeks.
