Default ANYONE with a detroit locker inside......

i just got my MOSER 9 installed with a detroit locker in my daily driver, and all i can think is i made a huge mistake going with the locker, its noisey, jerky with slow tight turns (i knew it would do this) but didnt think it would be this annoying

the question is do you guys get used to it or did ya swap it out for a posi????? cus i can take alot from a car but this rear sounding like a fwd car that needs a cv joint when im in a parking lot is pissing my off

but the rear is dead quiet on the hwy and is such a nice feeling after having a screaming 10bolt for 75k miles

Yikes, in a daily driver, that stinks. After hearing a few lockers I decided NO WAY unless it was a race only car. I think ultimately it is up to you though...some people have no exhausts, banging rear ends, howling gears, etc and don't seem to care...others get annoyed at too much wind noise. If it bothers you that much, change the unit..

What locker did you go with?

I had an original model locker (came off a nascar or some ****) and it was actually broken inside (still locked up though. Those things are nuts.)

I swapped it out for a Softlocker or whatever they call them... Other than some jerkiness on cornering starts, it's amazing

I just swapped out a Detroit Locker for a customer, and put a spool in it's place. No more of that jerky wondering feeling. I've experienced this very same thing in many of these cars that are equipped with lockers. Bob

I don't have a Detroit in my SS but have one in the rear of my Wrangler. It just takes getting used to and you'll learn over time to drive the car differently. After 4 years in the Jeep I don't even know it's back there anymore.

I have a Detroit Locker also and daily drive the car , Run it to its Vmax on the autobahn, drive it through the best roadcourses in Germany, Drift it through corners with ease. Yeah it clanks, bangs pops and Rachets on tight turns , has severe front end push from a stop when the road is wet (PUSHING IN THE CLUTCH TAKES CARE OF THAT). Other than that I have no Driveabilty issues with it. I wouldn't trade it for the world. On a Side note though, doing a U-turn is a snapp.

I have one in my 9" and other then some extra noise here and there I don't think it's too bad. Compared to my whiney 12 bolt it's great.

i HATE this locker this is the absolute worst decision i have ever made about my car, i drive on 18in street tires and not any kinda DR or slick so there is NO give when making tight turns in and out of parking spots/lots, i have just picked up a cheap beater car so i will drive that alot now till i have time and cash to get a tru trak for the rear

my advice to anyone looking to get a locker is NOT to unless you go to the track often and need the added strength, for me i dont race the car enough for this to be ok

A 9" with a soft locker here. When I first got it it was a PITA. I don't know if it gets broken in or what, but I love it now, seems no different than a posi. The peace of mind that it isn"t going to get nuked is assuring.
