Default rearend opinions wanted

I am considering putting gears in my 2000 TA since it only has 3.23 gears and I drag race so I dont need to go 160+. Anyway I wanted to get the opinion of some guys who have been there done that. My budget says spend around $500.00 and put a set of gears in my stock 10 bolt because I really cant afford a 12 bolt right now but would like to add some kick to my 1/4 mile time. Is it a waste of money to do this or should I just live with the wimpy 3.23 gears until I save enough for a good rearend? TIA

You have less chance of breaking it in an auto. Do the gears, but just keep in mind the 10 bolt is fragile (geared up or not).

Have you asked yourself what you are going to do if the rear end breaks? If this is your DD i say leave it as is, if it's a fun car do it and pray.
