4.56's will help temendously at the track. Even over 4.10's. I know a local guy with 4.56's bolt-ons and a ls6 cam that runs 11.8x at 116. He is cutting 1.61 60's with 28" hoosiers.

The only thing I do not like with the 4.56 is that with stock height tires it causes me to shift into 5th before the end of the quater. Other than that they are great.

I'm going with 4.56's when I buy my D60. Had 4.10's in the 10 bolt and figure might as well go all out with the new rearend. I too heard you'll hit 5th with stock tires, but once you buy a set of sticky tires just get the right height tire and you'll be good to go.

I have 4.10s in the 10 bolt with very few mods and I barely make it across the traps in 4th. I'm talking the shift-lite's on and sometimes I hit the limiter once or so before I press in the clutch to start slowing down. It's THAT close.

I wouldn't go 4.56s if your planning on running stock height tires, especially since your spraying.

At 6800 the top speed in 4th with 4.10s will be 127 with the stock height tires. It's 115 now at 6200.

Shifting to 5th at the track sucks ***, I tried it on the spray and I hated it, can't wait for the heads/cam so I can rev this thing on out and stay in 4th.

So does anybody think 4.30's would be a better choice then. Especially for a car like mine, with my mods. Then when i get a cam in it, ill do a gear change for 4.56's?

I have 4.30's in my 99 TA M6, and I pull around 2 grand on the interstate, nothing bad....

Are you guys running 12 bolts or 9 inch rears? A 7.5 with that much gear and tires will go through gear sets like a fat kid through skittles

I am thinking of getting the new Strange 9" and some 4.30's for my mods below. Then after i get a nice sized cam, something around TREX or so, im going to move up to 4.56's, possibly 4.88's, depending on my next mods.

I may be trying for a solid roller 402 or 408. If i do then ill definately get the 4.88's, atleast i think i will.

Oh and i almost forgot some important information. I am also looking to do a wheel change at the same time i do my rear-end. I am going to switch from the stock 17's to a set of 15's and change my Nitto DR's to some ET streets around 28*13.5*15's.

As previously mentioned, tire height will be holding you back. I'm on 28's and when I cross the traps Im in 4th gear around 6500rpm...and trap 120mph. If you've got heads/cam AND spray, expect mid-high 130mph traps. Max speed for 28's and 4.56's is 130mph and thats crossing the traps at 7100rpm.

Play around with that for a while. A good spray setup would be 4.10s + 28"s if your going to be deep in the 130mph zone.

What are the exact gear ratios for our first 3 gears? NM, i think i have it. So it looks like i should need 31in. tires(i doubt i can fit those, but maybe somebody else will know if i can)with stock 6200 redline, and 4.30's will get me at a 133mph end speed for fourth. So i can throw me a shot of nitrous on there also and i should pull some awesome times.

you cannot put 31" tires on your car without major cutting of the fenders. 28"s barely fit, I couldn't imagine trying to make another 3" of room.

Even with changing from 17's to 15's? Is it possible to get 31's under there. I mean and still have the exterior of the fender look unchanged.

nope. Rim size has nothing to do with tire size. A 26" tire on a 17" wheel is still just as tall as a 26" tire on a 15" wheel, you just get a larger sidewall (better for hooking at the track)

So are you saying it is impossible or just requires a lot of fender well cutting and possibly a mini-tub to get the tires back deeper into the wells.

the width wouldnt be too much of a problem (maybe, but minitubbing is always an option), its the height that I see being the problem. thats a good 3" bigger than mine, and I wouldnt even know where to start to make another 3" of room, unless you cut the plastic part of the rear fender.

just run some 28s and get all the suspension goodies and it should hook fairly well.i would probably run the 4:10 so you'll have alittle left.

he's gonna have to run a 4.10 if he plans on making it past 130mph, althought he might be able to run 4.33's if he doesnt mind revving to 7k.

Well i am thinking of 4.30's for my car as it is right now, with the smaller wheels and bigger tires. Probably looks like with some 28" rubber under there. No nitrous or anything else will be done with those gears.

Then i want to do a built 402 or bigger with a solid roller cam. Revving to about 7500rpms and change the gears to some 4.88's. Same size wheel, but i want to see if i can get those damned 31" tires in there. I dont mind cutting out the plastic from the fender if i need to. I really dont even care if you can see the tires from the inside of the car. I will ofcourse have to fab some sheetmetal to cover them up, because of rocks and stuff.

So where does this sound like it'll put me. I am shooting for running around a 12.0-12.2 with just bolt-ons and gears. Does this sound do able or not?

SUX2BU on here runs 31" tires on his car for daily driving. I'm not sure how much cutting he had to do, but I don't think it would really be that big of deal. Oh, and he runs the 4.56's on his with the TRex.
