What's up with the SLP torque convertor? Why is it so much less than the others? Is it a POS? Or is it just a stock with mods? This automatic trans thing is new to me. I've always owned sticks! Now I remember why. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

It is ok for a bone stock car. I had one. Not enough gain for the effort and you'll want a higher stall. Go with a Yank ST3500 or Yank SY 3500. Great converters.

According to SLP's catalog, all their LS1 converters are built by Yank. "Specified by SLP and built exclusively for us by Yank converters", page 26 of SLP's 2002 full line catalog.

I assume you are referring to the SLP 2600 as being much cheaper. It is a cheap fix for the off-the-line woes of a 2.73 gear car, but provided no help from a roll. I would spend a little more and get more stall.

THe SLP 3300 is a good street converter and will provide good off-the-line power and also help from a roll.

The big difference between the SLP Yanks and regular Yanks is customization. At least that is the way it used to be. The SLP's are "off the shelf" units, and the normal Yanks are built to spec.

The SLP 3300 was built to spec requested by SLP.

most Yanks are built to a design spec unless the buyer asks for a custom stall/str. IMO, frequently the buyer messes up the converter's performance by deviating from the established designs, especially if a stator swap is required.

Thanks for the info. I've never delt with automatics in a performance car. I know I'd like a better low end kick. From about a 40 to 50 roll I'm lucky if I get a downshift at times. It seems to change performance from day to day, I just never know what it's going to do. Also, would it be worth the work to go to 3.42s as compared to my 3.23s? I don't plan to do any internal engine or head work. Just want a little more oomph.
