Default gears whine....

Okay well i finally got my rear back together last week. I have finished going through the heat cycles. The gears still whine while at cruise. When i get off the gas they dont make a noice untill im ~5 mph and make a very quiet "winding down" sound.

The backlash was set by a board memeber. (.011) These are motive/gm gears.

Should i get the rear looked at by a tranny shop or am i good to race sunday??
Thanks,
Eric

mine are the same way, annoying and disapointing after all that work, but after 6,000 miles they seem fine. In my mind im not gonna spend another dime on that weak 10-bolt, im just gonna wait till it blows, then put my money towards something thats gonna last.

Mine are dead quiet during accel, and pretty quiet at cruise, but I can hear them on decel. Hell, I could hear the stock 3.42s at certain times too, so I really don't care.

FWIW the pattern looked good and backlash was set right in the middle of the specified tolerance. It said .008-.012, and they're at .010.

My gears whine pretty much all the time. They are an aftermarket set of 4.10's, not sure who installed them, or if they were properly installed or what.

I'm going to change the fluid with Mobil 1 75W-90 and GM Limited Slip additive and see if it helps any.

I have a similar deal as the top post... I have a 12bolt Moser with 4:10's and when cruising in 6th gear, the only whine when you're on the gas... they shut up when you let off...

And if you're going through the gears pretty hard, sound like like the blower off a cobra - haha...

I dont know if its a problem or not
