What is the Best RAM setup?
Thanks a lot!
Exactly. That's how I am where I'm at now. 2 stockers, a Z06 clutch ( remember when that was THE rage? ) and now I'm going to the RAM.
because everyones got an opinion on whats best, either through experience or someone elses opinion
because there are and will always be new faces with the same old questions and requirements (cheap and strong and durable)
because new ideas emerge rapidly, and with a market so needy, extensive testing and troubleshooting is not done 100% the best possible to quicken the release.
overall i think they have come a long way in a short period of time.. and will be a very comfortable buy for any brand within 5 years or so.
for the record i had 20k miles on my spec s3 carbon with no problems and moving to the gen 2 spec because of this good impression
I like the iron disk clutches. Maybe my tolerence for "driveability" is scewed somewhat, but I think it makes for a great street/strip clutch! Like Brother J said, the iron disk will slip just enough when launched at a high rpm, unlike a dual dsk Mcleod which will HIT the drivetrain hard. My previous clutches:
1. Stock 98
2. 2001 Z06 Clutch
3. Centerforce DF + Mcleod adj. Master
4. Mcleod Rev Lok II
5. Spec Stage 5 Iron
My favorite so far is the Spec. It is similar to the Mcleod but IMO more driveable. It doesn't hit as hard in between shifts in daily driving, and is easier to slip form a take off. Clutches are nothing new. It is still the hydraulics we are fighting. RAM has a good clutch out, but the disc melting to flywheel makes me a little skeptical.
