Default Clunking noise when I repeatedly engage and disengage the gas pedal at low rpms?

I have a 2002 Z28 with the A4 and just over 10,000 miles. On rare occasions when my car's rolling (or when my foot isn't pushing down on the gas pedal) at around 15-20 MPH, I would hear a clunking noise coming from around the suspension area once I push down on the gas pedal. I've had this problem probably since when the car had around 3,000 miles, but I've always thought that it was normal. Quite recently, I was driving with my Uncle in the car during highway traffic. He heard the noises and pointed out that those noises weren't normal and, at first, thought that maybe there was something wrong with the differential and then, later, thought that there was something wrong with the u-joint. Therefore, I made an appointment with the dealership to diagnose and repair the problem under warranty. Do you have any idea what my problem could be? Thanks in advance for the info.

I believe you're referring to the free-play in the u-joint. Seems to be a regular complaint which the dealer says is normal .

U-joint with any noticeable play should be replaced.

The normal free-play present in the drive train is in the rear end between the pinion and ring gears. Whether or not it is a problem is relative to how severe the looseness is - a solid, loud clunk is probably excessive.

my firehawk and my camaro does that as well in the 15-35 mph range. i let off the gas to slow down a bit and then i put my foot back on the gas and you hear that little clunck like the driveshaft moved because you put force back onto it or something. i guess if if gets any worse i will do a thourough check on the car jacked up and in gear as if i was driving it to see exactly where it is coming from.

A certain amount of "drivetrain backlash" is absolutely normal. If you continually try to make it happen, it will only get worse.

I have same sound from 15-30 mph. I guess its "normal" since it has always done it and everyone else's does too. It hasnt caused any problems, so I'm not worrying about it.

Had same problem, still do. dealer replaced a
pinion seal but still have the clunk,(minor, but
annoying). Like your stang. had two 82's,-an 85,a 93-Loved it best, and a 99 I didn't like. all
were GT's extensive mods. Now I got this 2002\Z28 Camaro, Auto, 2:73 gears (plan a update to 3:73's)
MTI lid
K&N filter
granatelli MAF
BBK throttle body
SLP CAI
SLP Y-pipe
Corsa ultra 3" Catback
MBA billet alum caps & pedals
tint
And looking for another 90-93 stang
