Default gears in 402

i have a 402 that i just put in. the stock gears are 3.42. it feels like a pig until 3000 then it takes off. will gears help that? i also have a aluminum flywheel. should i go back to steel. last one. if i put 4.11 in it will i become a coplete tire burner or should i go with a 3.90. spinning tires dont win races!

Well it depends on what you use the car for...is it strictly for track? What kind of tires/wheels are you using...from there you would figure out the right diameter wheel/tire combo and then the gear ratio that you would need to cross the traps in whatever gear/RPM you wanted to...

As far as the flywheel once again it depends on what you use the car for...I like 4.10's myself but if I did it all over again I would have gone with 4.30's (in my 12 bolt).

I felt that way too. I put a small cam in mine, 230/224. I thought 3.90s would be great but in my opinion it was not enough gear at all, it was terrible. Like I said I would have definitely gone 4.30s, I think that's about as high as you can go without turning ridiculous RPM's on the highway. In a 10 bolt though, I would find a set of 4.10s and call it a day, and if you blow up that rear, get a 9 inch/12 bolt with 4.30s+.
