Default 9" vs 12 Bolt......

First off who has the 9"? do you have any problems with it, fittment issues, etc? How much heavier is it? how much more power does it rob?

How strong is the 12 bolt? Will it withstand rev limiter launces every weekend, and not worry about it? Also, how fast can you go and not worry about it breaking? 9's? 8's?

Thanks

I've seen a few 12 bolts have issues with the hard M6 launches

I run the 9" with a locker and fitment was good. its a tad on the heavy side and I get some gear noise (its hard to keep a 4.71 pinion quiet ) Haven't broke it yet

(moser 9" with strange nodular iron center section)

How much heavier is it? Is it easy to change out centersections? With the locker does it click a lot, or is it a soft locker?
Don't most places that sell a 12 bolt have warranties or anything?

haha, i was actually needing to talk to you also, ahah, awesome.

I wanted to talk to you about your gearing. What gear are you finishing the quarter in? what tire are you running (how tall)? What 60's are you cutting? do you feel it is overkill? how fast does every gear wrap out? Did you see a significant difference over, let's say a 4.10 gear ratio?

thanks a ton man

How much heavier is it?

about 38 lbs as listed on BMR's site

Is it easy to change out centersections?

well thats debatable...you have to pull the torque arm and the three big *** bolts that hold the torque arm mount to the rear...after that its pretty easy

With the locker does it click a lot, or is it a soft locker?

I have the HE-MAN locker...haha...its bangs and clicks for sure...soft locker is supposed to be nicer though

Don't most places that sell a 12 bolt have warranties or anything?

they don't come apart, its the gears that start howling. Seems they just can't take the abusive m6 launch

What gear are you finishing the quarter in?

4th

what tire are you running (how tall)?

Full 28" tires (28x11.5x15 Hoosier QTPs)

What 60's are you cutting?

In the 1.6s, I've been having a few issues with my suspension which I'm addressing now

do you feel it is overkill?

its ALOT of gear on the street with GSCs

how fast does every gear wrap out?

On GSCs they wrap out FAST. on the 28's its not too bad...1-2 shift at 50-60 feet out

Did you see a significant difference over, let's say a 4.10 gear ratio?

I think the 28"/4.71 combo is comprable to a 26"/4.30 gear if that helps you out. but the 28" is taller thus has more sidewall to help cushion the launch.

If I was gonna be trapping 122 or so, what gear would you recommend? It would be at it's PEAK power (stock internal) so i couldn't do anything more power related, it would all be setting up gears and suspension to get that magical 10 with stock internals. What would you recommend. The only reason i ask is becuase i have heard of quite a few classes where they are liimited in power so they compensate wiht INSANE gearing and still run SWEET et's. MPH doesn't matter to me, all i want is the ET.

Thanks

for stock internals I'd limit myself to a 4.30-4.56 gear on 27-28" tires or a 4.10 with 26s

I have the 31 spline Tractech soft locker in my Moser 9".

I have also been in Fireball's car.

My soft locker makes very little noise compared to his.

I have seen 12 bolts die after a number of hard launches on big slicks.

Mine has seen 1.51-1.55's and it's fine.

What about using a spool for both street and strip? A Posi doesn't keep power to both wheels very well and a locker would be too noisy for me. So how about a spool? Also on the 9", how hard to get ABS on the center section? My stock ABS sensor is on the differential.

If the car is 80% strip I would do a spool.

I'm at this point, but frankly the soft locker is great.

I killed a 31 spline posi.
